Alexander (1 son of Thomas Maclagan). b. Bridgend, Perth 3 April 1811; apprentice to a plumber 1823–9, then a journeyman; contributed to Edinburgh literary journal 1829; manager of a plumbery in Dun ferm line 1833; junior clerk in inland revenue office, Edinb. 1850; entertained at a public dinner in the hall of Burns’ cottage 1851; granted civil list pension of £30, 29 Sep. 1856; author of Sketches from nature and other poems 1851; Ragged school rhymes 1851, new ed. 1871; National songs and ballads 1878. d.
