(fit.) [A corruption of fight, because every paroxysm of sickne is a struggle for life.] (Med.) A sudden and violent attack or paroxysm of disorder, in which the body is often convulsed, and sometimes sensele ; as, afit of apoplexy or epilepsy; a fainting-fit, & c. The term also applies to the first attack, or the return after ashort intermi ion, of certain diseases; as, afit of the gout, afit of the meg rims, . [s. 367]
