Boucher

Jonathan, an American loyalist during the period prior to the Revolutionary War. He was born in England in 1738, came to America at the age of 21, and later became rector of William and Mary College in Virginia. With all the force of a vigorous nature he opposed the Revolution with voice and pen, until he was forced to leave the country and return to England. In a volume of collected discourses, which he dedicated to Washington with whom he was on terms of intimate friendship, he sets forth the position of the American loyalists during the agitation that led up to the Revolution.
