[Named after P. Pena, who, A. D. 1570, in conjunction with Lobel, published the Ad. versaria Botanica.] Bot .: The typical genus of the Penæacee (q. v.). Handsome shrubs, with small, flat, entire leaves, those near the extremity of the branches with flowers in their axils. Petals, none; stamens, four, with short filaments; style, four-winged; stigmas, four; capsule, four-celled. Locality, Cape of Good Hope.
