Manor

(man'ur.) [From L. ma neo, I abide.] (Feudal Law.) A tract of land subject to the territorial jurisdiction of a grantee-proprietor, styled lord of the manor. The manorial institution in England dates from remote feudal times until that of Edward I. in 1290.- (Amer. Law.) A tract of land held of a proprietor at a fee-farm rent, in money or in kind, and descendible to the eldest son of said proprietor, who, in the State of New York, bears the old Dutch title of patroon.
