Ague

(ā'gū.) [A.S.] (Med.) An intermittent fever, which comes on at certain intervals, leaving the person in the intermediate periods in apparent health. According to the different times of the return of the feverish paroxysm or fit, the ague is denominated quotidian, tertian, or quartan. It occurs chiefly in situations where there are shallow, stagnant waters. [s. 14]
