Gorges, Sir

FERDINANDO, lord-proprietary of the English colony of Maine, was B. of a noble family in England about the middle of the 16th century. Gorgo'na, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea, 16 m. from the Tuscan coast, in the vicinity of which immense numbers of anchovies are taken. Extent , 2 m, long, by an equal width.
