Abductor

(ab-dūkter.) (Anat.) A name given to several muscles, on account of their serving to open or draw backwards the parts into which they are inserted. Abdul-A'ziz, Sultan of Turkey, B. 1830, succeeded his brother, Abdul-Medjid, 1861, and, after his elevation to the throne, instituted important reforms. He visited the courts of W. Europe in 1867, being the first Ottoman monarch who did so. Deposed and committed suicide, 1576; succeeded by his brother, Mourad. [s. 3]
