[L., cardiocentesis, paracentesis thoracis, paracentesis abdominis, etc. para central (par-a-sen'tral), a. [ [ Gr. para chordal lying on each side and in front of the notochord of the early embryo, and laying the foundation of the skull. See cut under chondrocranium. In the chick's head cartilage is formed along the floor of the skull by the fifth day of incubation.
