Anaconda

Originally, large python-like serpents of both hemispheres; now, genus Eunectes, largest of the Boida. It lives in tropical America, and subsists on large birds and small IMG:content-0165.jpg:[graphic] IMG:content-0166.jpg:[graphic] crawl by means of the lower edges of its gill covers. The branchyal bone is developed into a labyrinth of plates inclosing vascular chambers that act as lungs. See ACANTH OPTER I.
