Eccentric

That portion of any mechanical arrangement in form of a disc, or a wheel, whose axis of rotation is not the true centre of its circumference; the (so caused) devious action, when revolving being designed to convert rotary to reciprocating motion; for its employment, see „ Eccentric-sheave ”.
