DIKE

When a ma of imstratified or igneous rock, such as granite, trap, or lava, appears as if injected into rents and fi ures in the stratified rock, so as to intersect the strata, it is called aidyke. Dyke is also the name given to a mound of earth, stones, or other materials, intended to prevent low land from being inundated by the sea, .; as the dykes of Holland. [s. 383]
