Francis Egerton, third Duke of, the ‘lather of Inland Navigation in Great Britain,” born in 176. Fer the purpose of connecting the cities of Liverpool and Manchester, he completed a navigable canal, with the a istance of the celebrated engineer, Brindley, in 1761. He afterward promoted the Grand Trunk Canal navigation. He becama ultimately the po e or of immense wealta,: realized from the results of his life’s labors. He died in London, March_3, 1803.
