organization of lawyers, now comprising in its membership 17,000 lawyers from eyyt all parts of the United States Any member of the legal profe ion is eligible who has been a member in good standing of the bar of any State for five years. The organization was founded in 1878. Its object as defined in its constitution, is ‘to advance the science of jurisprudence, promote the administration of justice and uniformity of legislation throughout the Union, uphold the honor of the profe ion of the law and encourage cordial intercourse among the members of the American bar.’ Annual meetings are held lasting for several days, at which papers are read by emi- “ nent members of the profe ion and topics discu ed looking toward the betterment of judicial proce es and the maintenance of ethical profe ional standards Committees are appointed to study existing laws, point out defects and suggest improvements. The influence exerted by the A ociation is profound, and it has proved a potent force in elevating the standards of legal education and promoting uniformity of legislation throughout the country.
