A chemical ve el employed in sublimations, and in digesting solutions in a sand heat. It is superseded in the" modern laboratory by a flas'^. liATRICULA. (Lat. mater, mother.) A register kept of the admi ion of persons into any body or society, of which a list Is made. In the Romish Church there was a matricula clericorum, a list or catalogue of the officiating clergy;and mntricula pauperum, a list of poor persons to be relieved. Hence, when a student is entered in the register A the universities, he is said to be matriculated. [s. 741]
