John, an American historian; born in Boston, Ma ., 1706; collected many papers rélating to the Baptists in America; and published “A Centennial Discourse on the Civil and Religious Affairs of the Colony of Rhode Island,” which was the only history of that State for more than a century. He died in Newport, R. L, Jan. 26, 1748.
