[ sectivorous or parasitic species, such as the ichneumon flies and cuckoo-flies, which have the abdomen stalked; the female with a freely projecting ovipositor forming a borer or terebra, which is straight and inserted at the apex of the abdomen; and the larvæ apodal and a proc to us, usually parasitic in the larvæ of other insects.
