In Law, is an action of tort. It is a species of action on the case {see Action), which is employed to try a disputed question of property in goods and chattels. The declaration in trover a umes (by a fiction) that the plaintiff lost, and the defendant found and converted to his own use, the goods in question. [s. 1278]
