embletonia

[Named after Dr. Embleton, of Newcastle.] Zool.: A genus of Eolidæ, consisting of unarmored nudibranchiate marine mollusks. Emblic a officinal is is a tree with a crooked trunk and spreading branches, alternate leaves, one or two feet long, small inconspicuous greenish flowers, and tri coccous fruit, with two seeds in each cell. The fruit is acrid, and is made, in India, into a pickle. When ripe and dry it is an astringent, and, 1630 under the name of Myrobalan i Emblici, has been used against diarrhea, dysentery, and cholera. ( Lindley, .)
