(yu’-ter-us). The womb; a fleshy body in the pelvic cavity about 3 inches long, and shaped like a pear; here the ovum grows during the period of pregnancy and the womb enlarges to hold it. All operations involving the uterus are serious, and must be nursed by strict obstetric rules, especially with regard to the use of antiseptics.
