[Pref. semi-, and Eng. breve (q. v.).] Music: A note of half the duration or time of a breve. It is equivalent in time to two minims, or four crotchets, or eight quavers, or sixteen semiquavers, or thirty-two dem i som i quavers. sěm-i-çîr-cle, 8. [Pref. semi- , and Eng. circle 1q. v.).] 1. A half circle, one of the two equal parts into which a circle is divided by its diameter. 2. A surveying instrument for taking angles. 3. Any body in the form of a semicircle. sěm-i-çir-cu-lar, adj. [Pref. semi-, and Eng. tircular (q. v.).] Having the form of a semi-circle; half round.
