pl. [Lat. inter-, and pl. of maxilla the jawbone, the jaw.] Anat . ( Human & Compar .): Two bones situated between the two superior maxille in the Vertebrata. In man and some monkeys they anchylose with the maxillæ so as not to be distinguishable in the adult. Where existent, the intermaxille form the front part of the upper jaw and support its incisor teeth. Called also Premaxillaries.
