vy. tr. A?m‘pu?-tat, Gr., ämoxérrew. Lat., amtare (from ambi- {= äpdé], around, and putare, to trim, to prune, Fr., amputer, Ger., amputiren, It., am put are. Sp., amputar. To cut away from the body the whole or a portion of a limb or any salient part, such as the breast or the penis; also, as occasionally used, a portion of an internal structure (e. g., the uterus, the uvula, ete.).
