Bates, Henry Walter

a naturalist and traveller, born at Leicester; friend of, and a fellow-labourer with, Alfred R. Wallace; author of "The Naturalist on the Amazons"; an advocate of the Darwin i an theory, and author of contributions in defence of it (1825-1892).
