(no mon.) [Gr., literally, that which explains.] (Dialling.) The style or pin of a dial, which, by its shadow, exhibits the hour of the day.-(Ast.) A style erected perpendicular to the horizon, in order to ascertain the sun's altitude.-(Geom.) A figure formed by the two complements with either of the parallelograms about the diameter. Gnomonics, (-mon'iks.) [Gr. gnomonikē. ] Dialling, or the art or practice of constructing dials. [s. 413]
