are substances which destroy the ti ues by their chemical action. They are used to remove warts, to touch dog-bites and to stimulate ulcers, which heal. Caustics have done much harm in cancer by destroying it and ———s it to renewed pase but the form of secret remedics for cancer they are still in use. The chief caustics in use are fuming nitric acid, glacial acetic acid, silver nitrate or lunar caustic, caustic potash, pure carbolic acid, and arsenic. [s. 341]
