pl. [Mod. Latin musoph aga; Lat. fem.pl. adj. suff. -inæ.] Ornith.: True Plantain-eaters. The typical sub. family of the family Musophagidæ (q. v.). Three toes are directed forward, and one backward, the outermost placed obliquely. The most common species is Corythaix musophaga , the White-crested Plantain-eater, found in southeastern Africa, where it is called Louri, or Lory. Another species, with a more northerly habitat, is Schizorhis concolor, the Gray Plantain-eater.
