DUKE OF MONTEBELLO, 1769-1809. French general, eminent for his daring; with Napoleon in Italy and Egypt; Marshal 1804. He led the van at the cro ing of the Battle of Montebello. Alps, defeated the Austrians at Montebello, June 9, 1800, took Sarago a Feb. 21, 1809, and was mortally wounded at E ling, May 22.
