cyanogen iodide

H Chem .: (CN)I. Obtained by subliming a mixture and i so cyan uric acid, OC-N of one molecule of mercuric cyanide, Hg(CN)2, with two molecules of iodide; or by adding iodine to a concentrated aqueous solution of pota ium cyanide, and shaking out the (CN)I with ether. It is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether; its vapor has a very irritating smell. It sublimes in colorle needles at 45°. With ammonia it forms cyanamide and ammonium iodide. Cyanogen bromide, (CN) Br, is also a crystalline irritating substance.
