[Gr. epitaph ios.] Pertaining to an epitaph. Epitaphist, (ep'i-taf-ist,) n. One who writes epitaphs. Epit'as is, n. [Gr.] ( Lit. ) That part of a composition which forms the main action of the subject treated of, and serves as the prelude to the catastrophe; - correlative to protasis . - See PROTASIS. ( Med .) The paroxysmal stage of a fever or other disease.
