Squad

A small portion of a company, troop, or battery, placed in the especial charge of an officer or non-commi ioned officer for purposes of inspection and supervision. In the infantry it corresponds with a section. It also signifies a small number of men drilled together. The term awkward squad is applied to those soldiers who, on account of clumsine or want of attention, are sent back to the lowest squad to be re-drilled.
