[Greek laby rinthos =a labyrinth, and brangchion =a fin, a gill.] Ichthy.: A group or division of Acanthopterygii (q. v.). Head and body covered with scales of moderate size; gill-openings rather narrow, with a branching labyrinthine body, which a ists in the oxygenation of the blood, above the cavity of the gills.
