In Ecclesiastical matters, one of the five Inferior orders in the Romish chinch. In the church of England, a reader is a deacon appointed to do divine service in churches and chapels of which no one has the cure. There are also readers (priests) attached to various eleemosynary and other foundations. [s. 1038]
