1694-1746. Italian musician of the Neapolitan School, equally eminent as church and theater composer: pupil of A. Scarlatti; teacher of Jomelli and Piccini. He wrote 60 operas and many ma es, motets, etc. Leo African us (ALHASSAN IBN MOHAMMED ALWAZZAN), ab.1480-ab.1530. Spanish Moor, traveler in Africa, captive and temporary convert at Rome ab. 1518; author of a book on Africa pub. 1559. Leo chares, 4th century B.C. Greek sculptor of Athens. Leo Diaconus, 10th century. Byzantine historian. His book, extending 959-975, was pub. 1819.
