He is an active member of the great Church societies; one of the three permanent chairmen of the general meetings of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge; chief mover in the establishment of the diocesan conference for London, 1883; chairman of committees of the Lower House of Convocation of Canterbury, on duties of archdeacons and on resolutions of diocesan conferences; particularly active in the " Marriage Law Defence Union " (i.e., against legalizing marriage with a deceased wife's sister). He is a moderate High Ch urchman, with great sympathy with all that is earnest and true in every school of the Church of England.
