Divining Rod

Forked twig by aid of which some think that ore deposits, subterranean water, hidden treasure, etc., be discovered; also called Dowsing Rod. There are many reasons for supposing that this proce of division cannot be carried out indefinitely, but that finally a particle would be obtained so small that further subdivision would destroy the identity of the substance. Such a particle, called a molecule, may also be divided, but the resulting particles, called atoms, are different in their properties from the matter thus subdivided.
