He translated with notes the works of Hyppolytus (except the " Refutation of the Heresies ") in the Ante- Nicene Library, vols. v. and ix., Edinburgh, 1868- 69; Julius African us, etc., in vol. ix.; Theognostus, etc. (fragments), vol. xiv., 1869; Gregory Thaumaturgus, etc., vol. xx., 1871; Augustine's Harmony, etc., in vols. viii. and ix. Augustine's works, 1873; wrote the notes on Epistles of Peter in Schaff's Popular Commentary on the New Testament, vol. iv., 1883; The Life of the Apostle Peter, 1884; edited Bible-cla Primers, 1881 sqq., and Commentary on the Epistle of Jude, London (in pre ). He has besides written numerous articles in periodicals.
