pl. [Mod. Lat.euret (e), and Lat. fem. adj. suff. -idœ.] Zool.: A family of Hexactinellid sponges. Range in time from the Chalk till now. *eu-ripe, s . [EURIPUS.] A strait, a narrow channel or arm. Petrol.: A porphyry of which eurite is the basis, or which consists mainly of eurite. It occurs near Christiania in Norway, pa ing into granite. Lyell regards it as plutonic rather than volcanic.
