xenophthalmia (zenofthalmia)

[L.. Gr. strange, + ὀφθαλμία, ophthalmia.] Conjunctivitis excited by the presence of a foreign body. Xenopicus (zen-ō-pikus), n. [NL. (S. F. Baird, 1858), IMG:content-2639.jpg:[graphic][subsumed][merged small] IMG:content-2640.jpg:[blocks in formation] Xenops gen i barb is. pre ed, and upturned bill, and ranging from Mexico to southern Brazil. There are 2 distinct species. X. gen i barb is has the back olivaceous and the belly streaked; in X. rutilans the back is rufous and the belly is not streaked. They are very small birds, 4 or 5 inches long, both with a white cheek-stripe.
