A name of sundry geometrid moths, from their variegated coloration. Carpocratian boring wood. One of the commonest species to which the name is given is the California woodpecker, Mela. nerpes formic i vor us; another is the Gila woodpecker, IMG:content-3175.png:[graphic] carpet-rod (kär'pet-rod), n. One of the rods used to keep a stair-carpet in its place. carpet-snake (kärpet-snāk), n. A large Aus- tralian serpent, Morelia variegata, a kind of pygialis. python or boa: so called from its variegated Carp in us coloration.
