Queue

or CUE or 'pigtail,' in Chinese, pien tzu IMG:p481_8.png:Chinese characters -J-. The plait of long hair worn by all ni.ale Chinese throughout the Manchu dynasty (1650-1912). It,— together with the shaving of part of the head, — was forced on the people as a token of their submi ion to the Manchus. The badge of servitude was long resisted in Fukien and Swatow, and with the fall of the dynasty in 1911 the queue disappeared in all revolutionary districts, and later almost everywhere.
