The common woody nightshade, the stalk of which is used in medicine to furnish a decoclion which is somewhat narcotic and diuretic, and has a very peculiar bitter sweet flavour.Ithas been recommended in chronic rheumatism, and as an alternative in some cutaneous cases, but is not much depended upon.
