Practical unit of electrical quantity; equal to the quantity of electricity that will flow in one second when the current strength is one ampère; 10 1 C. G. S. electromagnetic units. Named from CHARLES AUGUST IN COULOMB, 17361806, French physicist and engineer, who wrote much on electricity and magnetism.
