Legal status of husband and wife. How and by whom it may be entered into, and how di olved, are matters of State law, differing in various jurisdictions. By the English common law, the legal personality of the wife was merged in that of the husband; he became vested with the title to her personal property in po e ion and with the use of her real estate.
