Basutoland

a native province and British South African po e ion, between the former Orange Free State, Natal, Griqualand East, and Cape Colony. The Basutos belong chiefly to the great stem of the Bechuanas, and have made greater advances in civilization than perbaps any other South African race. Basutoland has an area of about 10,300 square miles, much of it covered with gra , and there is but little wood. The climate is pleasant.
