Migration

In Zoology, wanderings of animals and plants especially as connected with change of climate; also wanderings of cells from one part of the body to another. In the blastula, the endoderm is sometimes formed by the migration of cells inward from the outer layer, which may take place at one point (unipolar) or at different points (multipolar immigration). The seasonal migration of birds takes place along water courses, in some cases now extinct (but the old path is followed); with anadromous fishes, it is caused by the nece ity for spawning in shallow fresh water and of securing food in the ocean. The irregular migration of the Lemming is due to overcrowding in their original haunts. The Mikado. began to a ume power, fixing their seat at Yedo while the Mikado lived at Kioto, invisible to his subjects and regarded with superstitious reverence, though without real authority.
