and n. [ glo i. sternohyoid. sternomastoid (ster-nō-mas'toid), a. and n. [ That portion of the sternoclidomastoid which arises from the sternum. (b) The entire sternoclidomastoid, without distinction. II. n. The sternomastoid muscle. sternomastoideus (sternō-mas-toi'dē-us), n.; pl. sternomastoidei (-1). [NL.: see sternomas toid .] The sternomastoid muscle. sternomaxillaris (ster-nō-mak-si-lā'ris), n.; pl. sternomaxillares (-rēz). [NL.: see sterno maxillary .] The sternomaxillary muscle. sternomaxillary (ster-nō-mak'si-lā-ri), a . [ sternomaxillaris , sternum , q. v., + L. max ill a , jaw: see maxillary .] Pertaining to the sternum and the mandible: applied to the sternomastoid muscle when, as in the horse, its anterior end is fixed to the mandible. stern on (ster'non), n . [NL.: see sternum.] Same as sternum. Wiseman , Surgery. [Rare.] sternopagus (ster-nop'a-gus), n .; pl. sternopagi (-ji). [NL., στέρνον , breast, chest, + πάγος, that which is firmly set.] In teratol ., a double monster with union at the sternum.
