Infantry Tactics

Means by which an officer forms infantry soldiers into an organized body which can be marched without confusion and with celerity to any desired point, maneuvered over any ground, thrown into the best particular formation for attack or defense, and yet be under the complete control of its commander. The accepted organizations for infantry are found in the drill regulations adopted by the War Department, as are also the formations required for the drill and discipline of an infantry force. But the tactical art is developed in a commander only when he can always bring a stronger force than the enemy at the time and place of actual combat on the field of battle.
