Short title for Capitaine adjoint au chef de corps (see adjoint), also used in combination with medecin (q.v.), and colloquially, in the same sense by itself—Major de la garnison (du can tonne ment). Garrison adjutant, town-mayjor. —Major du camp, du bivouac, etc. Camp commandant. [p.351]
