(Ital.) A paste of wheat flour in the form of wormlike cylinders of various diameters: the smallest or thread-like being termed vermicelli, and the larger macaroni. It is also cut into ribbands and other forms, and is then called I tali ari paste. It is made by forcing the paste through small apertures in an iron plate, which is done by a powerful screw pre . The most glutinous varieties of wheat are those which yield the fittest flour for this manufacture. [s. 1438]
